• What’s a manga library?
    • A manga library is considered a “special library”. That means that the books in the collection all have something in common. In our case, all of our books are considered “sequential art”, which means stories told visually through a series of images with dialogue/text boxes. It also means that, as a library, we operate under a fundamental principle of making the books accessible to the public. A place to keep books so others can enjoy them without having to purchase them.
  • So like a bookstore. Can I buy the books?
    • None of the books in our collection are for sale. Outside of the occasional online fundraiser for rare series, or our small fundraising table at events, you cannot buy the books in the Library.
  • Where is the Library located? I want to come visit!
    • Our organization is a mobile library, which means we don’t stay in one place. While we would love to have a permanent physical location, that would severely curtail our mission of getting our books to as many readers as possible every year. In the last ten years we have had over 250,000 visitors to our library at various events in over 15 different states. Visit our Appearances page for a list of places we will be and have been!
  • Do you have (INSERT POPULAR SERIES HERE)?
  • Do you take donations of books?
    • We take donations of gently-used graphic novels, manga volumes, art books, and book versions of webcomics/newspaper comics.
      • We do NOT accept: non-English manga, hentai, gravure/idol photo books, or DVDs/BluRay. See our Donate Books page for more information, including our mailing address.
  • How can I donate financially?
    • Thank you for your generosity! All donations received are used to buy new books and keep the library running in material ways like new bookshelves and car/trailer maintenance. No salaries are paid from donations as all of our staff are volunteers. We accept monetary donations in a few different ways. Please visit our Donate Funds page for more detailed information.
  • Are my donations tax-deductible?
    • The Carolina Manga Library is a 509(a)2 organization and is thus categorized under Section 501(c)3 of the United States Internal Revenue Code as a tax-exempt nonprofit organization in the United States. All donations to this organization are considered as tax-deductible dependent on current federal regulations.
  • Will you come to my event/school/library?
    • Our Library is like a literacy vampire. We have to be invited in. Please see our Invite Us page for more information on how we can bring our Library to you!
  • I want to start my own Manga Library! Will you help me?
    • Of course! Use our Contact Us page to speak with our Head Librarian. Whether you’re a convention looking to create an internal manga library, or you’re starting your own personal library, we can help!
